My winter hair regimen
If you watch my hair tutorials you know that I have been creating tutorials for years using SheMoisture products. So I am so happy that I was recently asked by SheaMoisture to create some unique tips for using new products and I would like to share with you.
Everyone’s hair is different. We can define our hair using a texture scale. For example, my hair texture is a 3C/4A. Knowing this helps me further understand my hair’s specific strengths and weaknesses so that I can select the most appropriate products that promote and maintain the health and growth of my natural hair, focusing on eliminating any damage.
If you have watched my hair tutorials you know that I take my natural hair seriously –especially advocating healthy hair first. I have been a product junkie for a couple of years now, testing products and seeking those that will give me, soft, bouncy, shiny, dreamy curls. And after many failed attempts and product trials, the secret is learning which hair products work well to achieve the dynamic styles and looks that I desire during different seasons.
So what is my course of therapy for dry/cool weather?
Warm to cool weather hair care transitioning doesn’t mean a total overhaul in my regimen. In summer I am more of a wash and go girl. In winter I concentrate on using protective hairstyles. I also use the LCO method (Liquid/Leave-In, cream and oil). In winter, I prefer to switch out lighter oils (coconut, almond) for heavier ones (castor oil) and heavier creams in my mixes and sealants, to increase moisture retention that can withstand the colder elements, and a better preserved curl. In order to achieve this I use:
- SheaMoisture’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil: Strengthen & Grow Leave-In Conditioner
- I use this to restore & repair my hair. If you chemically process, color your hair or apply heat, this will help restore your hair
- SheaMoisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie
- This is a moisturize & curl define for thick, curly hair. These curl and shine recipes smooth and add curl definition. It also helps controls frizz and enhances shine for healthy, bouncy curls.
SheaMoisture also has the Raw Shea Butter which offers moisturizing recipes to fortify and restore the hair and scalp
Below are the steps that I use and the results:
I detangle my hair with oil & remove all the shed hair.
Once my hair is detangled, I clarify my hair & condition it.
I apply my hair products using the LCO method :
First, I apply my leave in, which is the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Grow Leave-In Conditioner
Then, I apply my cream, Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie for moisture
Finally I add an oil of choice to seal in the moisture.
I begin to twist my hair in sections & let it air dry overnight.
The next day, my hair is dry and now I can take down my twists. My curls are bouncy and soft… See my results below dolls.
I purchased my products at Walmart in the general market hair care aisle. @SheaMoisture #EveryBodyGetsLove
