Before I get into the product review, I am excited to announce that Cantu is giving away a Deluxe Product Gift Box. The details are at the end of my review, so make sure that you check it out and enter. Ok, now on to happy discovering…
Everyone’s hair is different. We can define our hair using a texture scale. For example, my hair texture is a 3C/4A. Knowing this helps me further understand my hair’s specific strengths and weaknesses so that I can select the most appropriate products that promote and maintain the health and growth of my natural hair, focusing on eliminating any damage.
My hair journey
Everyone who watches my hair tutorials knows that I take my natural hair seriously –especially advocating healthy hair first. I wear lots of protective hair styles, and I have been a product junkie for a couple of years now, testing products and seeking those that will give me, soft, bouncy, shiny, dreamy curls. I have watched countless product reviews, tutorials, and wash-and-gos on YouTube and other platforms, wishing to achieve the results of whomever I was watching at the time. I have come to the formidable conclusion that we all have different types of curls and hair textures. And after many failed attempts and product trials, I have come to learn which products work well to achieve the dynamic styles and looks that I desire. The secret is learning how to mix hair products so they can provide you with the best results. Once I learned that my hair type is a 3C/4A, I discovered that, overall, I require creams and hair lotions with a thick, creamy consistency to moisturize my hair and detangle my fro. I use different types of cocktails for the unique looks that I wish to achieve.
So what is hair cocktailing?
Hair cocktailing basically combines your favorite products to obtain your exact desired outcome without having any negative results.
For example, let’s say you love your hair gel, but it leaves your hair feeling dry or crunchy. You don’t have to abandon it; you just have to consider your options. Try mixing some gel with a spritz of water or coconut oil, or mix it into your favorite leave-in conditioner or curl cream.
Ahead you’ll find an easy cocktail to get you started on becoming a skilled hair mixologist.
Below are the products that I am currently exploring.
Cantu Coil Calm Detangler
Cantu Complete Conditioning Co-Wash
Cantu Coconut Curling Cream
Cantu Leave-in Conditioning Repair Cream
Cantu Twist & Lock Gel
Styling products are notorious for containing ingredients like alcohol, mineral oil, and petroleum, all of which can damage our hair. These Cantu products DO NOT contain mineral oil, sulfates, parabens, silicones, or phthalates.
Step 1: Prior to washing, I spray on the Cantu Coil Calm Detangler. I use this prior to washing my hair to get all of the tangles out. When I use the detangler with a pick to comb my hair, it softens my hair and helps prevent breakage and hair loss due to pulling. Prior to using this product, I would have a lot of hair on my pick after combing my hair; now it is minimal.
See below for the results after using the Cantu Coil Calm Detangler prior to washing my hair. My curls are knot-free and ready for co-wash.
Step 2. I use Cantu Complete Conditioning Co-Wash. Once I soak my hair, I apply a liberal amount of the co-wash to the scalp area then I work it toward the ends. I LOVE this co-wash because it is so gentle and leaves my hair feeling so clean and light – it removes all of the oils from the 3-5 days that I do not wash my hair. Normally, in order to achieve this clean feeling, I have to use products that tend to dry out my hair after. But this Conditioning Co-Wash contains Shea Butter, so it prevents my hair from drying out.
Silly you – you didn’t expect for me to take a photo in the shower, did you? 🙂
Step 3. I use Cantu Leave-in Conditioning Cream. Once I co-wash my hair, I apply a liberal amount (enough to finger comb through every section of my hair – one section at a time) to repair any breakage that I have. My hair has been less fragile after trying this product. Also, this helps control frizz, especially with the high humidity.
Results below my loves.
Steps 4 & 5 are for the special moisturizing and curl-defining cocktail.
Cantu’s Coconut Curling Cream is perfect for twist-outs! Again, I love using shea butter whenever possible because I love how it softens my curls while strengthening my hair and amplifying definition. It doesn’t weigh my hair down. It works best when you apply it to damp hair, section by section, beginning at the root and working toward the ends. Also, this is a leave-in; do not rinse after applying. Tip: Cocktail with Cantu Moisturizing Twist & Lock Gel for super soft, long-lasting twist- or braid-outs. Cocktailing with the Moisturizing Twist & Lock Gel creates definition and helps to elongate curls and control frizz. See my before and after results below using the Cantu Curl Cream with the Cantu Moisturizing Twist & Lock Gel cocktail. You can see the definition that I was able to achieve, along with frizz control.
